Joint Optimization of Condition-Based Maintenance and Performance Control for Linear Multi-State Consecutively Connected Systems

Industrial systems such as signal relay stations and oil pipeline can be modeled linear multi-state consecutively connected systems, which comprise sequentially ordered elements fail if the first final are not connected. The performance level of each element is controllable, determines how many an connect affects its degradation rate. Accumulated cause failure, may lead to costly system failure. This paper aims minimize long-term maintenance-related costs, including failure costs. We provide optimal maintenance planning control for every state through Markov decision process modeling a dynamic programming algorithm. Load-sharing, restricted capacity, setup structural characteristics considered in model, all influence policy. Regarding management, reducing difference levels between elements, e.g., replacing more-degraded first, cost-effective.
